  1. A shot on goal is a shot that would have entered the net, had the goalie not been there.

    Shots that go wide, or hit the post, do not count as a shot on goal.  Actual goals, since they do enter the net, do count as shots on goals.

    They're just a statistic used to determine goalies' save percentages, and are often used to gauge which team has more offensive chances or control. (though this can be misleading).

    if the shot goes in the goal its a goal but if not then it is referred to as a shot on goal. there are no points but in alot of sports its a good thing to have lots of shots on goal because that means there are alot of scoring chances.
