"Singing in the Rain" crisis?

I have an audition in a few weeks for "Singing in the Rain" and would like the part as Lina. HOWEVER, what do I do for the audition, to prove I can play the part? I don't want to purposely sing bad... any suggestions for what I should sing where maybe I could put a bit of Lina's personality into the song? Thanks!

  1. study her vocal range and try to find songs that she would sing... or just sing one of her songs if they allow that! break a leg!

  2. Try a song from Guys and Dolls by Adellaide. She has the same voice.

  3. With all due respect, one might assume you've seen her portrayal, even studied that part, noticed her range, the context of the scene, etc. etc.

That doesn't suggest you'll be allowed to perform that number, but it can certainly alert you to HOW she performed it, and look into songs, that equate to that style/ range/ persona/ etc.

  4. In the musical stage version of "Singing in the Rain" Lina has a song that she sings that is not in the movie called "What's Wrong With Me" as you remember from the film Lina has the high pitch nasal voice I would look at singing either one of Audery's songs from Little Shop or one of Adelide's songs from Guys and Dolls, another good song would be "I'm just a Girl Who Can't Say No" from Oklahoma.

Remember you want to try and incorporate the voice with the audition since that is a key part to Lina's character.
