I was at a volleyball game and one of my friends yelled "STELLA" whenever the guy made a nice kill. What does that mean and where did that originate?

  1. He was probably actually saying "stellar", which has nothing to do with volleyball. It's just a way of saying "brilliant" or "amazing" .

    stel·lar

    –adjective

    1. of or pertaining to the stars; consisting of stars.

    2. like a star, as in brilliance, shape, etc.

    3. pertaining to a preeminent performer, athlete, etc.

  2. It's probably an inside joke or the answer above me.

"Stella" is also quote from a famous Marlon Brando movie too. A lot of people who know each other may have inside jokes and use them on the court to have fun.
