-----"The Club" stopped a man from stealing my car Monday. What is my next level of good protection?

-----My car is a single-owner 1979 Chevrolet Monte Carlo with about 109,000 true miles on it. I special ordered it in 1978. It was parked in my non-fenced apartment house parking lot. It had the regular "The Club" on it, with the wheels turned sideways. A floodlight was on it. About a year ago, before I got "The Club", someone did steal my car from this same parking lot; the police recovered it. What can I add to the car to make it even more secure? ---Jim

  1. Install fuel or power cut-off switches.

Turn your wheels sharply toward the curb when parking on a street.

Replace k**b-type door lock buttons with tapered ones.

Install a secondary hood lock if your car does not have one.

Install an alarm system that will sound when someone attempts to break in, move, tilt, or start your vehicle. Always activate the system when leaving the vehicle.

  2. There are two ways to be 'more secure'. One is to immobilize the car from starting and the other is an alarm system. Usually the two of these are used in combination...however.....

Install an ignition cutoff switch someplace in the ignition wiring circuit. It can be as simple as a small toggle switch (available for about $5) under the dash that can be flipped to interrupt the flow of current from the ignition switch to the starter.  Or you can put a big cutoff switch on the heavy duty positive battery wire. That's one where you open the hood and flip the lever or insert a key to disconnect power. Or you can invest in a "TriLock System" (new car dealers install them but their suggested retail price is steep unless you can get a deal).

A good aftermarket alarm and ignition cutoff say, made by Cobra or other manufacturers can be purchased at and installed by Best Buy for a couple of hundred dollars. A good one even has a remote that will chirp and tell you what part of the car is being messed with to alert you. you might consider installing something like Lo-Jack as well.

  3. They sell alarms with a 150 range that will tell you in your house on a receiver. http://ebay.com has them listed. They are also key less entry systems.

  4. 1. Take the tires in with you every night.                                                                                                 2. Sell your car, and get something less attractive.                                                                                         3. Park it in a garage.

  5. alarm   or put an airbag at the above the drivers seat in the roof and have it go off when someone gets in and doesnt disable it  oh you should have a control on your keyring for turning off the airbag

  6. a car alarm system with a tracking device installed that why if your car is ever stolen the police can track it down with the tracking device. And something that locks the ignition key when trying to start, (I forget what  that is called though)..

  7. I have a good pager alarm system in my truck .it pages me when there is a violation or the preset parameters   like if the door opens , someone bumbs really hard,   glass breaks ., mine had a range of  a half of a mile and a battery back up .    cost  was about 100 bucks .

  8. You can install an aftermarket security system on it, depending on what you want, you may have to do some research on it. Any car audio stores would be a good place to start. Hope your car doesn't get stolen again, you may want to consider moving!

  9. An Alarm.

  10. Trunk Monkey!
