Question:

"The Dying Hoghead"?

There is a poem out there with this title. I have exhausted the net resources looking for it to no avail. It is part of the public domain with no copy-write problems.

I can remember it starts, "A hoghead on his death bed lay, his life was ebbing fast away..." and closes with the line "... a'doubling the hill to the distant stars."

I have found references to the ode but not the poem itself. Does anyone know it or where I can find it?

Thanks a bunch.

  1. I took the opportunity to both Yahoo! and Google for the Poem entitled " The Dying Hoghead."

Well, I think that I have discovered the solution you are seeking.

In a Book entitled " Long Steel Rail:  The Railroad in American Folksong " written by both Norm Cohen, and David Cohen, is  " The Hoghead's Dying Request" which is a 1914-written Poem.

I was able to find this via Google.  Having first tried the words Poem , then Ode.  With the information you gave me.

Then, when Googled, I discovered this:

    Books.google.co.nz/books?isbn=02520688...

I hope that this helps in your final search.
