  1. It can be easily be related to today with the tapping of the phone lines. I am not against the phone lines being tapped, but you have to ask where the curtailing of liberties given to us in America will end. Will we become little more than a society run by a dictator? Ben Franklin is correct because he experienced the curtailing of his liberties prior to the revolutionary war. As Americans we need to be weary that the government does not become too powerful, but at the same time we do need to ensure national security. The question is at what cost? Are we willing to give up the right to free speech as was the case during WWI? I personally am not. Security can be attained in other and more effective ways.
