I have to write a thesis for To Kill a Mockingbird on a theme. So please tell me how this sounds, any improvements im open to anything! So please criticize if thats what it needs!!

In the book "To Kill a Mockingbird" the theme is discrimination. Harper Lee shows discrimination not just between two races, but between people just because of their reputation. She displays that discriminating people no matter what is not right, because you don't know what kind of person they are, you are just depending it on rumors, reputation or skin color

  1. You have a great idea with this idea, and there are definitely many different characters that you could use to advance your argument. However, remember that a thesis is not suppose to be a fact. You should be working the paper up to prove something. Your last sentence is pretty obvious, so it doesn't help explain your argument since it is a fact. However, "Harper Lee shows discrimination not just between two races, but between people just because of their reputation." this sentence is much stronger and you could advance it further by speculating through the characters that are discriminated. Also, though remember that a thesis is meant to be only one sentence. I would be that one sentence that I quoted as your thesis. There is a lot of material in the book to support this argument, and it sounds like you will do very well!

  2. You've had some good ideas offered so far.  What I would add is that there are numerous on line resources to help you with this novel, and with questions such as this one.  Many of them offer chapter summaries, list of characters, character sketches, discussions of themes, setting, imagery, and symbolism, etc.  Do a search for “study guides for To Kill a Mockingbird” etc., and you will find many sites.  Also, do a search here on yahoo answers for To Kill a Mockingbird and you will find a wealth of information.

  3. Your in the right direction with discrimination, but remember the causes of it such as ignorance that is simply passed down from generation to generation. Where the story takes place and the time period it rest in. There is also an underlining reason for the children being a vital part of the story, perhaps suggesting how innocence can be over shadowed by such hate. Don't forget the bravery of the father, standing up for what is right even when he is the minority. There are many things in this book that are not on the surface and are difficult to explain in such little space, but it is a beautiful book and if I was forced to choose a favorite this would be it!

  4. I kinda had to dosomethingn similar and the theme of the story is don't judge a person by their appearancee and children aren't corrupted by the world.
