  1. I LOVE that this question was asked.  RJJ is TRULY a "student of the game".

Galento was all heart and quite a character, as well.  He hit extremely hard but had no defense to speak of.  He was easily hit. . . .but that was the beauty of a Galento fight.  Taking shots was sorta his job. . . and to hurt him took a LOT of punishment.

Butterbean has a killer chin, too. . . . and has some serious haymakers to go along with it.  He was very, very close to securing a fight with Tyson in 1998 during Mike's "comeback".  I think at that point in Mike's career (post-Holyfield) the Bean could have hurt him badly.

This fight comes down to endurance.  Galento's fights were scheduled for 15, not FOUR!!!. . . . while smoking huge stogies and drinking like a fish.  He was a superior athlete, who could have possibly ruled the division if only he'd have trained like he cared.  His goal was to have a good time, and knock out fighters in his way.  He had a lot of fun, and knocked out plenty of big guys along the way.  My pick to win this fight is clearly the man who gave Louis all he could handle.  Galento wins in a late-round stoppage over a surprisingly spry, active Bean.  (great question!)

  2. LOL,   they'd never hit each other because their bellies stick out further than the length of their arms.

Galento would win easily.  He was an out of shape slob but he could still fight long enough to take on top level competition.  Butterbean might score a knockdown but he would fail to keep Galento down.  I think the bear gut gimmic was just that, in much the same way the ''beer and cigarettes'' thing is with Mayorga.   It sold a few tickets for a while.

Both are toughter than they look.  But only Galento has proven that he could take the pounding of world class heavyweights.  Butterbean probably could take the punishment but he cant beat top level fighters.   He better stick to the cab drivers and ''father of four'' types he is accustomed to fighting.

    This wouldnt last long.

    Galento would moider da bum.

    Galento by KO in 5

  3. galento should have been dq'd in the nova fight.....but regardless, could you see butterbean lasting into the 14th round of a fight with decent opponent as nova.

galento faced a better class of opposition, and also went 10 rounds on a few occations......he even knocked down one of the greatest heavyweight champions of all time!!!

i see galento stopping butterbean in 4 rounds.

  4. I believe that Galento despite being rather on the chunky side, could really fight and had a heck of a punch.  He put the great Joe Louis on the canvas before losing, gave Baer a heck of a good fight before losing and beat Lou Nova.  Butterbean never fought as high of a level of competition so I have to say that in an ugly brawl that Galento proves to be too tough and wins by 6th round technical knockout.

  5. Top notch question, I too go with Galento based on his level of competition.
