The premise of this question is dubious as the Surgeon simply wouldn't have time to sit at this square table and enjoy this lovely luncheon.

Cathy is the GP--given (4)

Ann is therefore not the GP, not the Optometrist (because she can't be sitting on her own left(3)) and not the Surgeon (because I'm assuming this is a pre-g*y marriage puzzle) because Cathy, the GP, is married to the surgeon(5). Therefore, Ann is the Dentist.

Barry is across from Ann, the dentist (1), so Cathy and David are on Ann's sides.

The Optometrist is on Ann's left (3) but we know that Cathy is the GP, so David is the Optometrist and he is sitting across from Cathy the GP.
