"WIld West Tech" had a show about boxers. Who where the boxers mentioned in the fight?

I'm trying to find out information mentioned on History Channels "Wild West Tech". An episode mentioned boxers who pickled their faces and beat each other so bad they lost vision, teeth, and I'm sure brain cells. It was the most brutal boxing match I've herd of and wanted to read more about it. Newspaper clips or anything.

I love that show.  They may have been talkin' about the John L. Sullivan vs. Jake Kilrain, it was in Mississippi, 75 rounds of action, with Kilrain's corner throwing in the sponge.  Maybe that's it, but it sounds pretty brutal.
