Starship - the upbeat 80's pop combo sang that they built a city on roack and roll. Well I'm sorry but this isn't the basis for a well run metropolis. City's need roads, drainage and solid infrastructure investment together with good local government not to mention a robust education and law and order policy.

So thanks for the tune Starship but I for one won't be visiting your city anytime soon.

Can I assume most agree with my viewpoint?

  1. Yes....I think the city would suck and be corrupt. Also that is one of the worst songs ever!

  2. Sounds a bit like Heartbreak Hotel actually

  3. No, rock & roll paid for all the roads, schools etc.

  4. love is like oxygen?

  5. Only to rock and roll

  6. yes indubadabley rock on tommy.they built my city with iron n coal.

  7. Thanks for the good laugh!!

This is by far the best question of the day.

(I hate that song and what it represented as far as one of the former GREAT bands (Jefferson Airplane), and what they ended up becoming.)

  8. agree.

  9. ice munchies is right - and Las Vegas was built on gambling, Bristol on the slave and tea trades, Coventry on motor transport - it doesn't mean the gamblers, slaves, boxes of tea or cars actually run City Hall!

    It called a metaphor

  10. ROCK'N'ROLL,nerd.

    ROCK'N'ROLL.

    Ah! but,ya can't.Can Ya.

  11. I grew up in the 80's and wow how I hated that song.  Give me some AC/DC anytime.  Wow how I hated that song.

  12. I agree, considering the turbulant  history rock n roll has any buildings would be in danger of collapse.

Firm foundations to British standard and building regs (part 2) is what is required..

  13. I don't know, I've seen a lot of screwed-up cities run in the manner you describe. What I haven't seen is this city build of Rock 'n Roll- which one is it? I'd have to look around the place myself before I could really judge...

  14. You are right.

  15. I pledge my support!

Urban planning is not a 4 beats to the bar matter!  Also...the staff at my local council look ridiculous enough without having to wear shiny silver jump suits.

It's all wrong I tell you!

  16. Grace Slick contemplated slipping acid to Nixon, which i think would have been funny. rock and roll helped Cleveland out,but they do have a weak electric grid. this brings up something i noticed after the bridge collapse, cities with pro sport teams have failing infastructure,so i think you are casting blame in the wrong direction. on a side note,Jerry Springer was known as the rock and roll mayor.
