"We tried to digest as much information as we could," says Los Angeles Angels’ GM Jerry Dipoto
Los Angeles Angels' general manager Jerry Dipoto recently attended the Major League Baseball annual general manager’s meeting in Indian Wells where entire league’s big strategy makers discussed all the possible future plans for their respective teams.
This was an official meeting but with more of a casual touch. Dipoto, with big decisions to make in coming months, put extraordinary emphasis on certain measures.
He seemed concerned about his team’s pitchers overwhelmingly big salaries which somehow putting more pressure on the franchise to not further involve in any new signings.
Angels, despite having many expensive and talented pitchers, lacked with hitting prowess in the side. Their batters could not play well and brought little success in the Major League Baseball regular season.
However, with all these concerns lingering, the Angels' manager showed a good positive thrust in GM’s meeting. He was pleased that his side still has potential to meet the modern day baseball requirements.
"We tried to digest as much information as we could, You're always going to get inflated expectations at the start of the off-season, not just for free agents but in the trade market, Nobody comes in and low-balls you. We're watching the landscape and will see how things unfold," Angels' general manager said as he explained all the possibilities and opportunities.
He added with more detail, "I'm not going to give you a progress report, You're never really looking for big-ticket items in the bullpen, You're looking for guys who can handle the role. With starting pitchers, you have track records, and you have a good idea what you're going to get out of position players."
Angels’ finished this past season at third position in American League West with 89-73 win-loss along with .549 winning percentage.
Experts believe and some inside sources also speculating that according to Los Angeles Angels’ GM, the side will be different in the coming season.
Though Dipoto did not mention any potential and big strategic change but if any major development does happen, the Angels' outfield will look more destructive.
