I am a writer and I have a good idea for a story. It's unlikley it would ever get published, so I thought about doing it online as a blog/Xanga/Live Journal kinda thing.

But would that be deceptive? Should I tell people it's fake? I need advice...

  1. No, as long as you put in a disclaimer stating that it is fiction.

I don't know about Xanga but Blogger has a side column where you can list things like links, bio and other criteria.  You could use the side bar for your disclaimer and it will be there permanently.  That way, you won't have to type it in on each entry.

  2. Ooh! That's a splendid idea. Might I suggest adding a "disclaimer" at the beginning of every post, telling your potential readers that the blog is fictional and merely just a story written by you. If it gets popular, you may have a publishing opportunity!

I know people do post stories like that on public websites. There's even a possibility that maybe there's a group just for that type of writer on LJ or Xanga? I would look into it. :)

  3. why would it be deceptive? how does it make people believe in something that is not?

  4. you can just start writing if you want. but maybe make a comment that this is indeed a story.

there was the whole reading of the war of the worlds over the radio and people thought that it was real and started to flee town, and people actually got hurt.

  5. People actually write fictional blogs all the time. Maybe you can give a warning in the beginning saying it's not real, so as not to deceive any future fan?
