"abated by death"--did the defendant die?

Question

I was looking at a criminal court record and a warrant was issued for

failure to appear. Then the case was closed , reason "abated by

death" This makes me think the defendant died....do you agree?

That is exactly what it means.  What a way to get out of being arrested!
