Question:

"blackberry in holster" - what does this mean?

I just got my first blackberry yesterday and I'm trying to set it up and personalize it. I'm trying to change the volume profiles, and I saw 2 settings for everything: 1 - in holster and 2 - not in holster.

Just wondering what this means.

  1. understand, this answer comes from a techno-dummy.

i would expect that the holster would refer to a device

you could lace onto your belt to carry the blackberry in.

a generation ago it would have meant a very soft fruit

in a device for carrying a firearm.  messy! messy! messy!

  2. In Holster means when the device is in a holster or case. Most cases or holsters have a magnet in them to put the device in to standby mode.

I do recommend some sort of case of holster, as it will protect the device if you do put it in your bag. I have the OEM sleeve that comes with the device and just put the device in there, then put it in my pocket or bag.

  3. The black case it came with, or even sometimes if you have your blackberry in your pocket, it will go into a SILENT mode.

  4. Never put a BlackBerry in its holster. It's lame. Seriously. Stash it in your bag.

If any dude is reading this, same rule applies. Never holster it. You don't want to look like an IT guy (even if you're an IT guy). Jam it in your back pocket. Much better.

That's my advice for the day.
