i have a laptop,while system start up it pops up "smart failure disk predicted ,a failure may be iminent,backup ur data ,press F1 to continue"

i want to sell my laptop,but need to disable this or ignore this warning somehow,any thoughts?

  1. Why do you want to sell a lemon?

    New hard-drives are under $100 and then you can honistly sell it without any worry!  Or just sell it as-is and say it needs a new hard-drive.

    I don't know that there is any way to disable it, the whole point of that error is to warn you the hard-drive needs to be replaced or you could loose all your information.


  2. You can disable the SMART checkup in the bios. If the option isn't there, there is a program that can turn it off. it is called Smartmontools. Here is the download link:

    It is the top one (the .exe file) just download it and install it. It is a little tricky to use but ill keep it simple. Open the start menu, look for smartmontools, and start smartctl (cmd). in the console screen type in "smartclt -s off hda" that will turn off SMART. good luck.

  3. smart is built into the hard drive...and it's illegal to sell someone something like that knowing that there's a major fault with it
