i'm pretty sure i've heard other people talking about similar dreams

i first remember being able to fly in my dreams about 22 or so years ago, as a child. and have been having them from time to time ever since. i have to jump, and start making the swimming motion, and then i'm flying, the harder i "swim" the higher i go.

these dreams, i always remember pretty vividly the next day, where as other dreams, i seem to mostly forget by the time i wake up. almost every time i can remember flying in my dreams, it is to escape a situation, or because i am being chased, and i typically don't fly indefinitely, usually just a few hundred feet, from roof top to roof top, or treetop to treetop...and i always get away, as far as i remember.

is there a common interpretation for this dream?

what about waking up because you have a slipping or falling sensation? that used to happen all the time to me, but not in the last 10 or 12 years it seems.

is this also common ?

  1. Some "Dream Interpretations" say flying is the need to be free. When you swim and the harder you do it represents your struggle to be free from something. The reason you remember them is because they are something that is impossible for us to do so the mind remembers. Falling represents total loss of control. The reason we wake up is because our mind thinks we are actually fallind and fear wakes us up. Honestly dreams are the result of the resting mind they have no meaning. Sorry.

  2. Flying or Floating at Low Altitudes:  Floating just above the ground by flapping your hands or arms or peddling your feet is an indication that you have lots of determination and that no matter how hard it gets, you feel you will succeed if you stay on course.  This dream is an indication that relief from any setbacks is imminent.

***And yes, I've had a falling dream once where I jumped up before I actually hit the ground. Lol. pretty scary.***

  3. well Ive had plenty of flying dreams my first was when I was a little girl and I was on my bed and it was flying up. but i've had plenty of dreams were I fly to get away from someone.
