"into the woods" audition piece?

i am a 15 year old girl and mezzo soprano...i would really like to hear some idea about which song i should use. thank you!

  1. Sing little red ridinghood's part! If you are a soprano, that is what the casting directors will want to hear.

Don't sing anything from the show unless specifically asked for.  Stay with Sondheim though, as his style is pretty specific and there isn't anything else like it.  Look at "Broadway Baby" from Follies, "Sooner or Later" from d**k Tracy (actually a film not a stage musical, but the music is Sondheim's), "More", also from d**k Tracy, maybe "Everybody Loves Louis" from Sunday in the Park With George, or "The Miller's Son" from A Little Night Music.  Something in there should work for you!

  3. Don't sing something from the show! That is a pet peeve of many director's. Look at some of Sondheim's other shows and the music in them.
