"network cable unplugged" error!?

Question

I am living at a apartment with the lan line directly in the wall so i don't connect my computer through a modem or router i could access.

I was trying to bridge lan connections from my desktop to my laptop but it wouldn't work. after i disabled the bridge connection it said my "network cable unplugged".

I then tried connecting the laptop directly to the wall and i got the same error.

i've already tried restarting both comps and using a dif. cable.

help please?!

You've done everything right so far.

If you are going to connect the laptop to the desktop you will need a special "cross-over" cable.

You'll want at least 25 feet, if two people want to be online at the same time, and not have to sit too close to each other.  The second in line computer will only be able to access the internet when the first computer is "on".

Instead, if you watch the sales, you can pick up an inexpensive router, with rebate, so that your investment is minimal,

and then each computer can access the router and the internet independently.

I know you probably already have, but for others, both computers in Control Panel > Network Connections > both computers need to be joined to the same WORKGROUP with exactly the same name.

When you disabled the bridge you disabled your ethernet card. What you have to do is undo the bridge, delete if necessary. This should enable your ethernet port. You may have to setup a new connection to the Internet, but at least you will not get the error message. I do not understand why you are trying to bridge connection between your desktop and laptop. If you want them to be able to interface, get a router.
