Question:

"solids"... how to??

My daughter will be 6months in a week and has been on solids for about 2months already. She is coping very well and eats anything and everything I give her... but at this stage it is either pureed or mashed well. She can have quite a thick texture but anything lumpy is still too much for her. For example, I gave her some very small peices of avocado yesterday and she wasn't impressed LOL. How do you go about making the transition to foods that require chewing (or in our case gumming) and when did you introduce finger foods and what were they.

Thanks in advance

  1. There are two ways to approach this. You can either think that she mustn't be ready and wait and try again in another 2 weeks. Or you can make her baby food and split it into two. Puree one half like you normally do and the other half puree just a little bit lumpier. This way the lumps are more hidden and she wont realise at first that she is "gumming" it more. Perhaps the little piece of avacado was a bit of a shock. Perhaps try banana and squash it in between your clean fingers first. Then gradually squash it a little bit less.

She sounds like she's doing fine. I've just started my little one on baby rice and she just spits it out. The joys of motherhood.
