  1. One of my very favorites:

"This too shall pass" (Hebrew: גם זה יעבור‎, gam zeh yaavor) is a phrase occurring in a Jewish wisdom folktale involving King Solomon. The phrase is commonly engraved on silver rings.

Many versions of the folktale have been recorded by the Israel Folklore Archive at the University of Haifa. Heda Jason recorded this version told by David Franko from Turkey (Israel Folklore Archive # 126):

"King Solomon once searched for a cure against depression. He assembled his wise men together. They meditated for a long time and gave him the following advice: Make yourself a ring and have thereon engraved the words "This too shall pass". The King carried out the advice. He had the ring made and wore it constantly. Every time he felt sad and depressed, he looked at the ring, whereon his mood would change and he would feel cheerful"

The phrase "This too shall pass" and the associated ring story were made popular by Abraham Lincoln in his 'Address Before the Wisconsin State Agricultural Society, Milwaukee, Wisconsin' (September 30, 1859).

  2. Another one of those sayings intended to make us look for the silver lining that is supposed to line every cloud.Every sensible person works out an effective way of dealing with depression,a way of lifting him out of the dump he occasionally  finds himself in.

An effective way of reminding oneself that no matter how hard or bleak things look at a given moment, that moments sure enough will pass.,there is bound to be something better round the bend.

  3. No matter how bad things are or seem to be, it will end or pass.  It's a word of encouragement.  The key?  The one who is going through it has to believe it.  Otherwise, the phrase is meaningless.

  4. it means watevers happenning will eventually end and u will get over it

  5. Whatever is happening will go by and you are strong enough to get through it. :-)
