anywhoo im tempted to try tofurkey but everytime i pick it up and look at it . it reminds me of smashed together vomit (sorry to be "graphic" but thats what it resembles to me) so i end up putting it back down. knowing this could make for a simple quick "snack" or whatever it would be.plus knowing no one to get an opinion on it from im asking you . what do you think of tofurkey and the fake bologna ect. does it taste how it looks or is it just unappealing to the eyes?

  1. I don't like fake bologna or REAL bologna.  I do like tofu and other vegan foods, but I tend to stay away from "prepared" foods like tofurkey and others - simply because they don't taste great.  I love to cook.  Pick up a great cookbook for tofu called Tofu Cookery by Louise Hagler or Tempeh Cookery by Colleen Pride (both put out by The Book Publishing Company at the Farm in Tennessee) for some easy and delicious recipes.

  2. I've never found any tofurkey or meatless deli slices to actually taste like meat no matter how close they might come to it. But usually they have a good taste and texture to them, which to me is what really matters.

  3. i actually tried it for the first time the other day and it tasted just like turkey. but it does smell/look a little gross. but just try it, its good.

  4. I haven't tried the deli slices.  I've had the tofurkey bratwurst.  Made it on the grill.  Really, really good.  Just put mustard on it-  didn't have to drown it in a bunch of condiments.  I've had the smart dogs and I didn't like those at all.  Actually threw the rest of the container away.  They have a chemical smell and are weird.

  5. I'm a picky eater and I really like the Tofurkey slices. There are different flavors, so you might like some better than others. The "peppered" flavor is my favorite.

  6. Although some soy meats can appear to look disgusting, Tofurky is actually one of the best-tasting soy meats that I have found.  It couldn't hurt to try it at least once.  If you are unsure of how it will taste, if you put Tofurky on a sandwich with lettuce, tomato, cheese, and/or any condiments, you will probably be unable to see much difference between Tofurky and real turkey.

  7. I love roasted Tofurkey if I'm making a home made sub sandwich.  But eating processed foods included soy meats aren't that healthy.  If you don't like it, don't force it.  Make some baked tofu and store in the refrigerator for quick sandwiches.  That's what I should be doing :)

  8. At least you can pick it up, it is not available where I live. To many carnivores where we live. I would like to try it, but like all fake meats I try not expect it to taste like the real thing. What has become unappealing and an assault on my senses is meat. All I see when I see some meat is flesh and carcass. No thanks man! Give me that tofurkey, sounds good to me!

  9. i'm the same way. i just gave up with the fake meat. you don't need fake meat to live so... try it one more time. either its a go or a no.
