  1. If his truck was totaled by the insurance company didn't get get a fat check for a down payment on his new truck?

  2. If the insurance totaled it, no you can not use it for a trade in. If the insurance has already settled on the truck it is most likely that the truck will be property of the insurance company.

  3. if the truck is totaled out the ins company will take the truck since they will pay him for it.  If he doesn't turn in a claim he can keep the truck and sell it himself...up to him.

  4. He can use it as a trade in only If he bought the truck back from the insurance company and can find a dealer willing to accept it as a trade in.  If he didn't buy it back, it is no longer his truck

  5. OK, he can ask the insurance company to keep it, and they'll subtract the "salvage value" from the check they write.  Then he can keep it, and trade it in or sell it.     But, keep in mind, that salvage value is coming off the check.  So it's not  like he's going to be ahead of the game, and he'll have to find a buyer for a totalled truck.

He's going to need a bus pass for a while, I think, to get to work.
