  1. They're selling Cadillacs for cheaper than they normally would. Cadillacs usually cost much more than Chevrolets.

  2. Everyone above is right but to flesh out the answer a bit, General Motors made Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Buick and Cadillac.  The same model was available under different names and parts were interchangeable, but they were dressed up a bit more as you went up the ladder.  For example, the Pontiac Firebird and the Chevrolet Camaro.  Some didn't ascend the ladder though, and some didn't descend.  You could buy a Buick Skylark instead of a Chevy Nova, but there was no comparable car in the Cadillac line.  Same for the other way, since you might find something similar to a Caddy in an Olds or Buick, but never a Chevy.  As you went up the ladder you paid more for what was essentially the same thing, only dressed up.  That is, until you got to the end of the model year and dealers were desperate to clear out last year's stock.  That's when they sold Cadillacs for Chevrolet prices.

    In the movie "A New Leaf" Walter Matthau played the spoiled rich guy who runs out of money.  He's fantasizing nightmares about the indignity of being poor.  Having one of his rich buddies pull up beside him at a stop light and saying in disbelief, "Walter?  A Chevrolet?!!"  Chevy was a blue-collar workingman's car.  If you had money, you bought a Cadillac or a Lincoln.  You weren't just buying a car; you were buying status.  Pride comes at a price and if they cut the price, people jump at it.

  3. In the USA the Cadillac is the top-of-the-range automobile made by General Motors. They also make the cheaper Chevrolet or 'Chevy' as it's popularly called. So they claim to be selling Cadillacs for the same price as Chevys.

  4. Since Cadillacs are considered high-end luxury cars and Chevys low-end budget cars, the idea is that you are getting a quality product or service for a basic price.  The cars are only used to add punch to the comparison because everyone recognizes the brand names of both expensive and cheap cars, but this sentence could be referring to anything from apartment rentals to dental services.

  5. Cadillacs = Highest quality cat at a luxury price.

    Chevy = Common economy car.

    You are get the best of the best for a very economical price.
