...ruffian or secretariat....who would have won?

Looking at the numbers I think Ruffian could have probably won all the 1975 Triple Crown races had she been ready. Her numbers are better on average at comparable distances than any of the winning times.

As far as winning over Secretariat.....again her numbers are comparable but 3 seconds off in the only 1.5 mile race she ran. She certainly had enough potential to where if she had been a 3 yr old in 1973 and ran against Secretariat then quite possibly he would not have won the Triple Crown.

In my calculations I came up with the following: Ky Derby - Secretariat by 4 lengths, Preakness - Ruffian by 5 lengths and Belmont - Secretariat by 15 lengths.

Raw numbers don't take into consideration the nature of the horses. Ruffian didn't like to trail at all so perhaps her times were slower than she was capable of.
