i'm starting to run regularly, and realise that i probably need to get some proper running gear.

what type/model of running socks would you recommend? are those "hidden"/low cut ones good, or the higher ones? what kind of material should the socks be made of?

i'm not a serious runner, running maybe about 2-3 km/ 1.2-1.9 miles everyday (more or less...depends on the weather).

are proper running shorts/tops necessary? i'm currently just using a normal cotton t-shirt and shorts, with a cardigan over if it's a litte chilly.

i have a pair of asics running shoes, so that part's settled.

oh, and is it really different if i run out of doors and if i run on a treadmill? Which is better?

  1. actually, i think u should wear what makes you feel comfortable while running, otherwise you will end up feeling weird. but by comfortable, i don't mean you should wear your pj's.

    try those dri-fit tops and shorts.

    go to nike.com.

    and by the way, i think it's up to you whether you run on a treadmill or outdoors. try running while it's raining, or when you're angry.lol.


  2. the beauty of the sport of running is that that stuff doesn't really matter. wear what ever you prefer, if you like low cut socks get them, you can just wear a regular t-shirt, even people who run a lot wear regular t-shirts a lot of the time.

    running outside is a lot better for you than a treadmill. on a treadmill all of your body weight is focused downward onto your legs, knees, ankles, etc when outdoors the impact force is less because you are also pushing forward.

    no, it doesn't matter too much what you wear when you run.

    it won't affect your running.

    not one is better than the other. it depends on the weather outside.

    the only thing better about treadmills is that you can run on an incline, which will really strengthen your legs. =)

  4. I wear DeFeet low cut running socks, they are breathable, sweat wicking,cushioned, supported and comfortable.  I would get blisters from cotton socks and really wet feet.

    As far as clothes go, I do wear the technical shirts and shorts for wicking, comfort, and chafe free.  Cotton shirts do tend to chafe, hold moisture and feels "heavy" and does stay wet.  Therefore when you finish your run, quickly change out of your cotton shirt so you don't get chills.  But if it works for you, don't change.  But if your looking into buying technical running clothes, Walmart actually carries them in the seasonal/sports clothing area for really cheap.  And its a good choice if your trying it out before spending a bit more money.  Make sure its says dryfit, dryweave, etc. (I've tried on running clothes that I like in running stores and buy them on Ebay, a real money saver)

    Running outside is less boring, lots to see and stimulating compared to running on the treadmill.  Running outside uses more muscles than running on treadmill but its still running all  the same.  Its a matter of preference.
