I was involved in a motorcycle accident and got a scaphoid fracture. The doctor put me first in a splint for 2 wks to let the swelling of my fingers go down. He put me in a cast for 4 wks. he said it wast a small fracture but he wants to make sure it heals good. Anyways I wold like to know if my hand it is going to get back to normal with the same strenght and everything ? How does a bone heals and what causes the bone to heal (scaphoid in my right hand)? They will remove my cast next wk. 8/19/08 and i would like to know ahead of time if i can ride again and get back to work quickly. ( i am painter for navy submarines ) and got to do a lot of climb ladders and all that.

  1. There's a lot of factors involved. It depends on how serious is the fracture and how dedicated you are in physical rehabilitation of your hand and wrist. Consult with your doctor for your concerns and what he can do to restore your function.
