I recently was prescribed bC pills that is a progesterone only pill due to having my baby 4mos. ago and the baby only gets breastmilk. My twin-sister is breastfeeding as well but her baby is 9mos. and eating as well, so not full time nursing.

her DR prescribed to her Yaz. Is this okay because she is breastfeeding? she said it was making her feel crazy and I was wondering if her Dr should be prescribing her the progesterone only pill. (As my Dr said I shouldnt be on anything but....because I was nursing) I told her to talk w/her dr on this but wanted to inquire...thanks for any informative info. :)

 1. I wasn't even aware that you could take birth control while breastfeeding. I would have her speak with her doctor.

 2. The amt. of hormones (estrogen) in the pill will affect the level of milk production. Since you are nursing full time, progesterone only would be a better choice for you. I switched over to a combination pill when my first son was 10 mos. old and it had little affect on my production. I HATED being on progesterone only pills because of the period regulation factor. Maybe she just hates the YAZ and needs to find another method. With my second son I just used a MIRENA IUD and all was well for its 5 year term, without any impact on milk production for the 14 mos. I breastfed.
