can a clutch that needs to be adjusted cause grinding in only one gear say 3rd?

  1. If it is going to grind because it is need of adjustment then it will grind in 1st and reverse for sure...maybe more gears...but 1st and reverse for sure.

    Sounds more like a bad syncro. Syncros are not needed to drive they just make it easier for most. Check the fluid for metal.


  2. Yes.  My Ranger needed an adjustment/replacement

    and it only ground a bit going into third.


  3. not likely. the bearings or synchronizers or gear brakes most likely cause this.
