1. x+y = 2 <=> y = -x + 2

    m[a] = -1

    y = x+5

    m[b] = 1

    m[a] * m[b] = -1

    Perpendicular

  2. If both formulae are expressed as y

    y = 5+x

    y = 2-x

    in the first formula, the line will be a positive angle, with a 1/1 gradient

    in the second, negative...but also a 1/1 gradient.

    So they will be perpendicular.

  3. First you write in reduced form;

    y = -x+2   and y = x+5

    The angular coefficients are: -1 an 1

    If it is the same, the lines are parallels

    If the product is -1 , the lines are perpendicular... and that is your case.

  4. 1) x + y = 2 -> y = -x + 2

    2) y = x + 5

    y = m*x + b

    m(1) = -1 ; m(2) = 1

    -> m(1) = -1 * m(2)

    => 1) and 2) are perpendicular
