1. Hi,

The two big poverty studies which come to mind are Rowntree and Booths, but I don't know if they called the bread line Britain studies.

Rountree's (1901) study dealt with absolute poverty and he worked out the exact food needs (as he saw it) for every man woman and child (3-8) for one week.

Unfortunately I only have Rowntree's needs for one day (a Monday) but they are as follows.

    Breakfast:

    Man: bread: 8oz, Margarine: 1/2oz, tea: 1pt

    Woman: bread 4oz porridge1 pt

    Child: bread 2oz, new Milk 1/2pt, Porridge1/2pt, Sugar 1/2oz

    Dinner:

Man: boiled bacon 3oz, pease pudding 12oz

    Women: potato's with milk 20oz, bread: 2oz, Cheese: 1/2oz

    Supper:

    Man: bread 8oz, Margarine 1/2oz, Cocoa, 1pt

Woman: bread 6oz, vegetable broth 1pt, cheese: 2oz

Child: bread 5oz, new milk 1/2pt

    Hope this helps.
