1. If you want a REAL answer, call your vet. I gave you a real answer, and I'll repeat myself with an explanation (by the way, I AM A CERTIFIED SENIOR VET TECH AND AN EMT)......

If you read the label on the neosporin, it says "For EXTERNAL use only" that means you, or any animal should NOT ingest this. All cats clean themselves thoroughly, and they WILL l**k off the ointment, that means they are ingesting it. It is a poison when it goes in your mouth or your pets. Unless a vet prescribes, or tells you to use a human-only medication - don't.

  2. I agree, the only way to be absolutely sure is ask the vet.

Human medication is not always suitable for pets, and I know I wouldn't risk it on my own cats without consulting a vet first.

  3. It's fine to put an antibiotic ointment on a cat's wound. I would make a collar so he won't l**k the ointment off. Here is a link for you on how to make a collar for him. It's easy to do and will save you some money by getting one from a pet store or a veterinarian's office.

I have used antibiotic ointments on many of my cats. It never hurt them one bit. If I thought it would hurt any cat I wouldn't have answered this question.

  4. The only place you will get a real answer is at the vets, give them a ring and see what they say.

    Good luck.

  5. If you want the REAL answer pick up the phone and call the veterinarian. They are the professionals. No guessing there. I'm sure you'll get the REAL DEAL!!

    Good luck. Meow!!!

  6. Generally you should never give human medication to your pet for any reason. You have no idea what effect it can have on them. If you put anything on the cut, your cat will try to l**k it off. Neosporin is not for internal use.

I did a web search, but there's a lot of conflicting info out there...and no site offered a decisive answer from someone I considered trustworthy.

Talk to your vet if you're concerned about your pet. If you don't have a regular vet (or can't afford one), you could try the link below.

  7. basically you should never use human medicine on a cat without a vet's approval. hydrogen peroxide(diluted) is safe for cat wounds or just some cooled boiled water with a little salt in it.

  8. i know with my cat, the vet gave a medication that is also used for humans. i do not think neosporin would hurt the cat, but it is best to call the vet first.
