why did people form and join labor unions during the Industrial Revolution

Okay, so the industrial revolution was when people started working in factories.  These workers were forced to work 12+ hours a day, there was forced labor of children, etc.  And when they complained, or couldn&#039;t come in to work, or died on the job, they could just be replaced by the number of other people looking for jobs.  They had to join together to get some sort of collective bargaining with the factory owners.
