1. remember. it all has to do with ur toss. and if u cant get it over. try to get ur arm stronger.

  2. can't really help you here.

    hit the ball harder!

  3. toss--toss ball in front of hitting shoulder

draw open--draw back with your elbow high and straight, finger spread and held strong

    step--transfer weight toward target

pop-- strike the center of the ball

follow though---look the whole time where you want the ball to go (not the ground) and end with your hand pointing there.

  4. You are letting the ball drop to low.. Practice hitting it at the crest of your toss.. I think then that it will be eaiser to get over the net.. Good luck... Grant M in Pennsylvania

  5. first of all break it down into steps.

Practice throwing the ball in front of you, make sure it's the right and comfortable height for you.

Then practice the way you are swinging your arm, make sure you follow through and also make sure you are hitting with enough power and also don't hit down.

Lastly if the ball is stopping short then you need more power if the ball is getting to the net and hitting it then you need more height.

Also depending on your conference's regulations an open or closed fist/palm will make all the difference.

HINT: a spin on the ball will increase its speed, but do this after you have mastered the basic overhand serve. Also ask your v-ball coach for extra assistance.

good look in your games. Bump Set Spike!

  6. If you think you're practicing hard enough you're NOT, you need LOTS OF PRACTICE. And if you're frustrated at your self don't be, it is SO hard and almost everyone has trouble with it. lol, especially ME.

  8. idk i play but yeah idk

  9. do you have the arm strength to get it over. if you wanted to can you hit it clear out on the other side if you tried.

if the answer is no then sorry you have to go under or sidearm

if yes then you need to practice with a higher toss and impact point. once you are consistently getting it over (even if it is going long) then you need to practice snapping your wrist at impact to get a good serve overhand with proper top spin and consequently top spin.

  10. TiPS:

hmm...well you should do work out stuff that gives muscle to your arms

when you serve you are hitting the ball its not hitting your hand

make sure to followthrough cause that pushes the ball over

feel tension in your hand [stretch it] when you SMACK IT!!!

make sure you are tossing it high enough

move forward when you hit to get momentum

  11. okay im a volleyball player myself for ur over hand serve to go over practice with a wall and keep throughing it up and make sure u hit it with the middle of your hand u try hitting it until u think u have enough power to get it over make sure ur toss is not to high or not to low so make sure u practice on ur throwing to! i hope it works let me know if u need more help

  12. MAKE SURE YOUR HAND IS STIFF AND YOUR SWING FOLLOWS THROUGH. DON'T FORGET TO STEP AFTER YOU TOSS THE BALL.

  13. make sure that your toss is over your head and that your hand is fully extended over you head when you make contact to hit the ball over.

  14. kay you have to make sure that you're getting a good toss.

that's a big part of it.

and make sure that you're not being shy about really hitting the ball.

no fist just smack it really hard.

but don't get that smacking sound then it won't go anywhere.

  15. I reccomend doing push ups to get stronger. Make sure after you serve drag your foot and follow through with your arm going down the side of your body. try hitting the ball with your arm fully extended.

  16. try play looking to the sky

  17. Overhand serves are tricky because of the angle at which the ball travels. Hit it not hard enough and the ball goes into the net. Hit it too hard and the ball sails out of bounds. The only thing I can suggest is practice, practice, practice.

  18. Some of the information above this is very good.

I agree with ladyc. Break down the serve into parts.

Do your toss about 2 to 3 feet above your reach as suggested by M!. Think of giving a "high five" to the ball. That is where you want to contact the ball. Hold your tossing hand open. Try to hold the ball only in your palm. Toss the ball and let it hit the floor. It should hit in front of your right shoulder if you are right handed. Do 10 tosses. Take 1 minute off. Do 10 tosses. And so on. Do at least 100 tosses every day.

When you start serving, plant your right foot if you are right handed. Do not step with your back foot. If you need more power, you can start with your feet a little closer together at the start and take a small step with your left foot only.

NEVER hit the ball with your fist. It MAY give you more power, but it gives you less control. Who cares if you get more power to get the ball over the net if it causes you to miss the court? And you may not even get more power. Serve with a flat hand and a firm wrist. Watch the ball. Do not be in a hurry to watch the ball go over the net. If you turn your head too fast to watch the ball go over the net, you will not see the ball go over the net. You will be lucky to see the ball get to the net.

As I said, you want to "high five" the ball. Start at the 10 foot line and get five serves over. Take one step back and get 5 serves over. And so on until you get to the service line.

Do these drills every day. Even when you are getting the ball over the net regularly.

The main problems with the overhand serve are:

    1) bad toss

    2) off balance body due to stepping with the back foot

    3) taking your eyes off the ball

    4) mental (if you do not think you can get the serve over the net, you will not be able to get the ball over the net)

  19. oooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmmggggggggggggg!

  20. I couldnt get my serves over either. If you are doing everything correctly, you may just need to lift weights. arm strength helps.

  21. Get comfertable with where the ball should be when u hit it[after u thrown it up]. It souldnt be behind you so u have to bend a little to hit it. And hit it hard! Dont worry, i still have trouble with it too. But if it doesnt make it over, i get mad and then i just hit it harder.

  22. Serve with your hand open (don't use a fist). Make sure you shift your body weight forward and don't toss the ball too high (maybe 2' over your head).

  23. When you throw up the ball with the other hand, get your serving hand ready to blast the ball over the net using the very bottom of your palm. That's how I get the ball over the net =)

  24. I just got over that situation!!! like 1 week ago i was getting 1/15, yesterday i gat 22/24!!!!!!!! what i do is hit it wiht my fist, and swing through, make sure you take a step and a good toss!!

  25. try harder till you get it right!
