23" x 23" square metal plate needs to be fixed by a carpenter

onto a wooden board. The carpenter uses nails all along the

edges of the square such that there are 24 nails on each side

of the square. Each nail is at the same distance from the

neighboring nails. How many nails does the carpenter use?

  1. 92 nails per square.  22 nails per side plus 1 in each corner.

    22+22+22+22+4=92 the corners count for both the adjacent sides.


  2. 93. The top of the square has 24 nails across, then it only takes 23 to go down the side since he already has the first one from the top row. This goes on all the way around using 23 nails on the remaining sides.

  3. 92 nails 24 on each side and about 7/8 of an inch apart i think but i could be wrong
