I want a pet rat, and I have almost convinced my mom by doing chores, saying that I'll work off the money and other things, but she only looks to the cons, but the cons would be cons for me, not her! My mom doesn't have to do anything but approve and buy the stuff so I can pay her back. Help!!

  1. You do know, of course, that you need to get at least 2 rats, right? It's not fair to the rat if you only get one, they are extremely social and NEED another rat.

As for your mom.. parents can be hard to convince when it comes to rats because they have such bad reputations. Do a lot of research and bring it to her. Explain why rats make such good pets, and detail how you're going to get the money to pay her back AND to set aside for vet bills (rats are prone to tumors and respiratory problems). If she doesn't want to pay, just save up the money and pay for everything yourself. It will take longer, but you'll have worked for it all yourself. Organize the information and tell her reasonably all of the pros AND cons and how you'll deal with those cons. Make sure to be reasonable and don't get angry if she disagrees, always stay mature about it, it'll impress her. ;P If she still resists, don't push it, just tell her a few rat facts every day until she relents. ;]

  2. tell them that "those rats are not gonna be my rats please dont judge them! most are really nice"

Plus save up money. thats how i get my rat i hope it helps it helped with my parents.

  3. You can tell her that the evil rats that chew up stuff and carry diseases are hardly at all like pet rats- they are different species. Go to PetSmart.com and get all the stuff you need and LIST THE PRICES. Right it down on a scrap of paper and give it to her. She'll realize they actually aren't that expensive and probably will let you.

  4. That bites! My mom let me start having pet rats when I was just 14 years old and I have had them ever since! (Going on my 16th year!! - Wow, I'm old!)

Rats are some of the funniest, cleanest, and charming animals that you could ever own. The only con in having one is the short life span (3-5 years if you are lucky.)

What are some of the cons that your mother has against it? Write what they are so I know and I will do an updated responce!

    UPDATE:

Well, any research on the web SHOULD assure your mother of what wonderful creatures these are! They are very loving and very affectionate almost like a little puppy. I don’t think your father’s deeds should be passed down onto you just because he was abusive towards a rat. The only thing you have told me is that she doesn’t think it is a loving animal. Is that the only reason she has behind her decision? I’m sure that come on here and rattle off facts about rats and raising them and whatnot, but the real question at hand here is how to convince your mother to let you get one and if she doesn’t find them to be a loving animal just show her video’s of other people’s pet rats on YouTube! Show her pictures of how some people dress their rats up in hats and funny little clothes! (yes, I am guilty of this too…lol!) Are you sure there are no other reasons as to why she will not let you have one? As a parent myself I’m sure it has more to do with having to clean a cage instead of the money it cost to purchase it, because even a really good rat setup it not THAT expensive.

  5. Ok, you don't need to be that crazy, just save up your money and buy it and it's supplies. Showing you can pay for the pet. Then your mom should feel that you do really want it and allow you to buy it= she will help you maybe buy the products.

Don't think i'm being harsh but it's something you need to work up to buy. It's not showing how much you really want it unless you buy it with all your money.
