2. It would've helped if you specified what country you're in. Not knowing that, I can give you an American perspective from a Yank's point of view. You have a lot of area to cover, but I can start you.

Think about what people wore in the 1800s > much of it was imported or hand made. England & probably France would be the countries where most of the imports would originate from. Hence, the designs would be mostly what others wore in those countries.

Next, examine the textile & garment industries in New England & the Carolinas. There were a few fledgling industries as the Industrial Revolution was starting. Cities were starting to grow, though most people still lived on the farm.

As the population continued to grow so too did the need for clothing. America with its vast growing of cotton, could readily supply manufactures with the raw materials to manufacture merchandise. And the garment industry in New York City began to boom.

For the 20th century, discuss how the migration from the farm to the city, necessitated a greater demand for dress clothing. How mass merchandisers like JC Penney were starting to grow. How WWII required manufacturers to switch over to supply uniforms for the armed forces.

You can conclude with from the 1950s forward, people became increasingly aware of a need to dress for success. Employment started to boom in offices & retail. And while you always wore your Sunday best to Church in the past, it was also important to wear the right clothes on the job.
