Question

Ok. so my sister went to study in abroad (about 8 hr plane ride away) And shes staying for a year. She just got over there, and all ready is homesick. She says she feels like crying all the time.... She has to speak a diff language too. She isnt coming home until next year... Any ideas on how to get her to feel less homesick? I dont think she has that many friends over there yet. (she has some)

aw, that is so sad.

I would try and send her letters/pictures and little packages everyday. Call her and email her. Keep her looking forward to messages and packages. I&#039;m sure that will get her thru the time. I know whwn my ex was in Marine bootcamp, he said it helped to know that he owuld get packages everyday and he looked forward to the mail coming. I would send two for the end of the week when the mail doesnt come, that way sh ecan save one for the &quot;off&quot; day.

Send her little things from home. A blanket, fav stuffed animal, pictues, even snacks that will remind of her home.

I know that would help me!

From what I&#039;ve heard, homesickness is pretty bad at first but it gets better after you start to adjust and meet new people. Tell her to put herself out there and be open to making new friends so she&#039;s not lonely. Frequent phone calling and emailing will help her stay in touch with her friends and family. If she has access to a computer, tell her to purchase a webcam and download skype (dont know if i spelled that right) and have your family do the same, so you can communicate more openly. I have friends in college who do this and they say it really helps. Hopefully it gets better, I feel bad for your sis!
