1. Ideals are broad ideas that may be mundane or which might embrace all of humanity. "A non-polluting car engine would be ideal (mundane)."World peace would be ideal" suggests that we should all do something to help bring this about. Ideals can come from many sources.Values are those things that are important to you or to the culture you grow up in. One person might value wealth more than friendship, whereas a cultural value could be something like a huge interest in sports or music.Responsibility means that you consider your actions in the broader framework of your life and of others. Everyone knows parents are responsible for raising their children; those parents who skip out of town are behaving like children, not adults. I am also responsible to my neighbors - I know I shouldn't keep my basement full of barrels with toxic chemicals. If the house ever burned down, those toxins could poison many people for a few blocks around.

Morals tell us what is right and wrong. These are codes of behavior often claimed to be given by a god of some sort or the ancestors, or by the collective wisdom of a tribe. Some of these morals are simple taboos, such as women may not be on top during intercourse.

Commitment simply means that you have decided to do something over the long term - stay with the same person, pursuing an important goal, and keeping promises.
