1. I think this is how you do it but I am not 100% positive.

    (6.92)(7.9)=6.92x7.9=54.668

    there you go!

  2. 55

you can only get as many digits out of the problem as you put in. so youre answer no matter what is 2 sig figs. the answer on a calc would be 54.6something, but since youre limited to 2 sig figs, youd round to 55.

    EDIT

don't listen to the rest of these peons...they dont know what significan figures are.

  3. I'm assuming you want this performed long-hand?

      6.92

      7.9

    -------

    _6228 <-- multiply 9 by 692

48440 <-- multiply 7 by 692 (remembering that "extra zero")

    ---------

54668 <--- sum of the two numbers

54.668 <--- put the decimal point in based off of the number of decimal places in each number being multiplied (In this case, 7.9 has one decimal place and 6.92 has 2 decimal places; therefore, the final answer will have the sum these decimal places (1 + 2), which is 3 decimal places)

  4. note

    multiply the numbers

    692(79) = 54668

add the decimal places = 3

    and count them over

    54.668

the significant decimal place is the most in the problem

    2 positions, so

    54.67
