Ok, it sounds simple but I'm not sure...the answers are not in the book, literally!

Which fruit contains the greatest amount of seeds? Which fruit contains the most amount of seeds (out of oragne, apple, nectarine)

Explain the adaptive value for a fruit in containing a single large seed. What might be the disadvantage of this reproductive strategy?

How might brightly colored fruits benefit a plant?

And why do flower structures dry up as fruits develop?

THANKS!

  1. I think a fruit of Ficus nota has many seeds. Some orchids maybe also qualified with this since their seeds are powdery. What do you think?

Having a single large seed is adaptive for plant that requires long seed dormancy. It is also good for plants that are very hard to propagate from any other means since the seed has large endosperm for the young plant. This is a disadvantage somehow because it requires high amount of food to store.

Brightly colored fruits easily attract seed-dispersing agent like birds and other animals.

Flower structures usually dry up as fruit develops to minimize effort on using plant resources on maintaining floral structures and dedicate those resources to the fruit.
