A point Z on line xy is chosen at random, and W is between X and Y. If XY = 8 and XW = 2, what is the probability that Z is on line xw?

  1. The line would look something like this:

    X------------W--------------Y

    [________] = 2

    [_________________] = 8

    Z can be anywhere in the line XY. The odds of it also being on the line XW is equal to how much of XY line XW takes up. Thus 2/8 = .25 = 25% probability.
