1. keep your tips up

don't freak out (i've seen many people freak out and forget to stand up, they end up falling or going around the bull wheel)

stand up that the "stand up here signs"

keep your poles out of the way

you might have to push off the chair with your hand to get momentum, but usually it's not needed.

It really is the easiest thing to learn on skis, if you can't get off a lift you shouldn't be on the lift.

To stop just to the pizza wedge. pull the tips of your skis close together while spreading the backs, you do not need poles. If you are good enough you can just turn your skis sideways "hockey stop"

you do not need poles to learn to ski, in fact there have been many discussions about whether or not poles are needed at all.

Snowboard is a bit harder as you have to get off sideways. Many people don't know to put their loose foot on the board to skate down and end up triping on themselves, it's quite hilarious until you realize you have to stop the lift and pick them up...

  2. This is what you should do when you're preparing to get off the lift:

    1. Adjust yourelf to sit at the tip of the lift chair few feet before you arrive.

    2. Grab your poles at one hand.

    3. Adjust your ski tips slightly up.

    4. When arrived, use the other hand to push the chair so your body will move up.

    5. Slide down the lift area by making a wedge.

    6. Keep your balance.

  3. Getting off the lift on skis is quite possibly the easiest thing ever. You stand up and the momentum carries you down a little slope. Stopping can be more complicated, there are tons of ways to do that. Poles aren't necessary.

Sounds like you're a total beginner (first time up perhaps?) so you want to take a lesson whatever it is you choose.

Snowboarding is difficult for the first few days on the mountain and you will spend a lot of time falling and wondering why you chose to do it but after that it clicks and is awesome.

Skiing is easier in that you don't have those few days of figuring it out.

  4. You point your ski tips up a tad. and push off the chair and to stop make a pizza shape or step and face your skis to the side!!! NO im a skiier and i never use poles!!!

  5. Keep your tips up when you get off the lift then ski down the short decline.
