I am confused....I am 158cm tall(13years old- I believe i am still growing) and 140cm at my chin....I am a beginner snowboarder( i havent been on a board yet..will be SOON)

I have used the calculator on snowboardlenghtcalculator.com, but the calculator says:

Freestyle:145

Freeride:149

Back Country:152

but from what i have heard you should get a board that is smaller than your chin if you are a beginner....I am guessing that from the info from abc-of-snowboarding.com(2 paragraph) that I am freeride or allmountain..

PLEASE HELP

Need more info???send me an email

  1. I've always been told that the length of the board matters but do not purchase a board just based on that. Do not set on a number (such as only focusing on 145cm boards). Different brands make different styled boards and it is BASED ON WEIGHT!

You can be a 145 in K2 but can also be a 148 in Salomons. It really depends on the brand and what the board is really made for (freeride, park, or all mountain).

Read the stickers on each individual board, find your weight and make sure that board is right for your weight. Research individual boards online or at the stores before buying.

It would be silly if you got a really long board because of the height, but if you are really light; the board might be really hard to control. When I bought my board, if I got a Burton, I would have rode 145cm but since I decided on a Salomon, I had to buy a 148 for my weight. Need more explanation? Email me. GOOD LUCK!

  2. I've been snowboarding for eight years and I've never ridden a board under my chin. Make sure the board is in between your chin and nose, but just about right at your chin if you're just starting.

  3. If you are still growing, it is common to get a board a bit longer so it will last an extra season. It isn't that hard to learn how to ride on a board that is a bit longer. I started on a 166 and currently ride a 160. Many people that I ride with have boards that are under their chin, but they are predominantly freestyle riders. If you like carrying speed, then a bit longer will suite you better, but that is after you learn!

To sum up: I would suggest a bit more than 140 since you are still growing. The 145 sounds like a good place to start. That way when you get past the beginner stage, you can learn how to use that boar din the park! Good luck.
