1. no belt- white belt: 3 count front kick, 3 facts about the american flag, 6 basic positions.

white- gold: white belt form, white belt combos, 4 count side kick, 1 round of non contact sparring.

gold- orange: gold belt form, gold belt combos, 3 count round, 1 round non contact sparring, side kick board break.

orange- green: orange belt form, orange belt combos, 4 count double round, 1 round light contact sparring, side kick board break.

green- purple: green belt form and combos, 6 count double side kick, 1 round full contact sparring, reverse side kick board break.

purple- blue: purple belt form and combos, 3 count hook, 1 round full contact sparring, heel kick board break, ridge hand board break.

blue- red: blue belt form and combos, 6 count round side, 2 rounds full contact sparring, spinning heel kick board break, back punch break.

red- 2nd degree brown: red belt form and combos, 7 count hook round side, 3 rounds full contact sparring, axe & reverse cresent & chop board breaks.

2nd degree- 1rst degree brown: brown belt form and combos, 9 count front round side hook, 3 rounds full contact sparring, front &jumping front & chop board breaks.

black belt test: all forms, combos and count kicks, 4 rounds full contact sparring against a black belt, [hammer fist, chop, ridgehand, flying side kick, elbow strike, jjumping front, and spinning heel kick breaks]

(by the way one round of sparring is 1 minute)

also for every belt you have to do every thing from that belt and lower of the forms, combos, and kicks. ex. (for blue belt test you do the purple, green, orange, gold, and white belt forms, combos and kicks)

  2. Depends from school to school but its usually:

    White

    Orange

    Yellow/Gold

    Green

    Purple

    Blue

    Red

    Brown

    Senior Brown

    Black

    1st Dan

    2nd Dan

    etc....

Sometimes the orange and yellow/gold swap with each other and sometimes the school don't even have orange. Like i said it depends on the school.

  3. white

    yellow

    orange

    green

    blue

    brown

    red

    1st rec Black

    1st Dan

    2nd Dan

    and so on

That is how it is done at my university

  4. white

    yellow

    orange

    green

    purple

    blue

    drk. blue

    brown

    brown w/ white stripe

    red

    red w/ black stripe

    black belt (1st dan)

    2nd dan

    (etc.)

Ha....each new belt requires something new and advance.

  5. when i did tae kwon do it was

    white

    yellow

    blue

    red

    black

    but other schools are different.

  6. Belt order varies form school to school, but the basic format is usually:

    White

    Yellow

    Orange/Gold

    Green

    Blue/Purple

    Brown

    Red

Black (1st dan, 2nd dan, etc.)

Now, sometimes the belts are just the basic white, yellow, green, blue, red, black, with a stripe the color of the next belt in between every full color belt (example: green belt w/ blue stripe, blue belt, blue belt w/ red stripe...) for a total of ten belts. Some schools use a purple belt only instead of blue belt nd an orange belt only instead of Gold. Some use both with one coming before the other. Other schools will have a red belt with one or more black stripes before black belt, some schools have a double brown belt, and still others don't even use the brown belt. Either way, the belt total should equal ten.

After all the color belts have been attained you go into the black belts which are refered to as dans, or if you are under 16 you are considered a "poom". The waiting period between testing for black belts is much longer than for that of color belts, which varies from school to school. to test for second dan a 1 year wait is REQUIRED, for 3rd dan its 3 years, etc.

4th dan is considered a master while 7th dan is considered grandmaster. There are 9 Dans in total with a 10th dan which is more of an honorary rank than anything else. I believe there have only been 7 10th dans recorded, 5 of which went to Kukiwon chairman.

as for requirement for belt testing, I always had to break boards with tecniques that increased in difficulting as the belt rank increased. Everyone also had to master different self- defense techniques and forms (we call em poomsae) some schools require you to know terminology, others require self-defense skits and most require sparring, but its different for every school. Hope all this info helps.

  7. There are ten belts:

    White

    Yellow

    Gold

    Orange

    Green

    Purple

    Blue

    Red

    Brown

    Black

and then you get into il dan, e dan, sam dan, sa dan, etc.
