here's the background of my family. (all fraternal twins)

- my great great grandmother had FOUR sets of twins.

- my great grandmother (one of those twins) had one set of twins. (but they died at birth.)

- my grandmother (my great grandmothers sister) had one set of twins.

- that one set of twins was my mother and her sister, but weirdly neither of them had twins (6 pregnancies between both of them)

how likely is it that i have inherited the hyper ovulation gene? does anyone know the statistics or anything

  1. I cant give you statistics but Im sure you already know that as they were fraternal twins you have a higher than average chance of getting them too. Esp when they are on the mothers side.

Obviously you are not guarenteed twins as neither your Mum or your aunt had them.

Oh everyone I know who has twins has twins in their family somewhere else. Theres only one set in my family and they arent very closely related but I am hopeful :)

  2. very likely:)

  3. I have no idea of specific statistics, and I am sure it just depends on chance, but I would definitely assume that your chances are greater than the average person. Sounds like you realize that the tendency to have twins is only passed down through females on your side, because ovulating 2 eggs is what causes fraternal twins. Obviously you can't inherit ovulating 2 eggs from your partner's mother, or from your father's father. (Some people don't seem to get this).

Your chances of ovulating 2 eggs are obviously higher, but even so keep in mind you would also need fertilization of both eggs to take place in order to have twins. So even if you ovulate 2 eggs every single time, you won't necessarily get twins.

In any case, good luck with all that :-)

  4. I dont know but no-one in my family had twins but i gave birth to twins. Its a very painfull job by the way!
