1. Whatever you do, do NOT just delete the Ubuntu partition. Ubuntu installed it's own bootloader, known as GRUB. GRUB looks at a file on the Ubuntu partition to know what operating system(s) to boot. If you delete the Ubuntu partition, you will not be able to boot Windows, either.

Boot from your Windows disc. In an XP disc, enter the Recovery Console and enter "fdisk /fixmbr". In a Vista DVD, just tell it to check the installation for problems. It will reinstall the Vista bootloader automatically.

After Windows successfully boots on it's own, THEN you can safely delete the Ubuntu partition. You will need partition software to resize the Windows partition. I'd recommend GParted, but you don't like Linux.

  2. personally I agree with the post about running fixmbr after deleting ubuntu partition(s). If you run into difficulty you can boot to windows cd and run recovery console then just type FIXMBR

  3. You toss in a boot disk for another OS, be it debian, red hat, windows, whatever... you boot off the CD (a bootloader may come up, if not configure your bios to boot cd before you're primary hdd).

If you have no idea what I just said, kick your friend that convinced you to switch to ubuntu in the nuts and tell him to put windows back on your comp.

  4. He still has Windows on his computer, person above me, it's a dual boot.

Just delete the Ubuntu partition from your hard drive like this:

Start -> Control Panel -> Admin. Tools -> Computer Management

Then on the left click Disk Management then on Disk 0, delete the Ubuntu partition (that's the one that DOESN'T say NTFS)

In reply to the person below me: I have simply deleted the partition myself and GRUB remains fine, everything is still on the list, and you just pick Windows.

  5. inconclusive_conjuncti... has the answer sown up.

It is unfortunate that you have had an unpleasant experience with Ubuntu, however you do not specify the issues you have had and (Ubuntu sucks) says nothing whatsoever except that you possibly haven't given yourself sufficient time to get used to it.

If you haven't already uninstalled Ubuntu I would like to help with any issues that you are having. If you would like help feel free to email me (see my profile)
