Why would a young person start using youR last name & title when they used to call you by your first name?

  1. Maybe they (or someone around them) feel that they should be more respectful of you.   Unless it really bothers you, let them.  Otherwise, just say, &quot;It&#039;s ok to call me _______.&quot;


  2. Maybe someone told them it was disrespectful to call an older person by their first name, and they want to show you respect !  Next time they say it (and you are OK with them using your first name) tell them you appreciate the gesture, but it&#039;s OK to go back to L. . .= )

  3. It depends upon how young and what your relationship is.  Sometimes the young person does it to show respect to an adult and they may have only recently realized that it respectful.  Other times, the young person may be upset with you or fearful of you or adults in general and is trying to distance themselves.  There could be other reasons too, but without knowing how old you or the young person is and what your relationship is or was, these were the only things that came to mind.
