  1. Maximum 50cc with a design speed not exceeding 50kph (31mph). It does not matter if it is an automatic scooter or a geared motorcycle, both are classed as mopeds. You do not need a theory test but must get a CBT certificate before riding on the public highway.

  2. One at a time.

  3. 49cc max

  4. In the UK, a 16 year old can get a 50cc or below moped.

The definition of a moped is any vehicle with 50cc or less, with a maximum speed of 45kmp/31mph. That means it could be a scooter or a motor "bike", as long as it has those requirements.

To get that you need a provisional moped licence, which involved a CBT certificate (compulsory basic training), as well as a theory exam.

With a provisional moped licence, however, you must not take a pillion passenger or rides on motorways.

  5. This leaflet from the department of transport should explain everything you need to know - http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roadsafety/drs...
