2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series – Detroit Red Wings win 7-3 against the St. Louis Blues
Another high scoring encounter was the 263rd match of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. The match was played at the Joe Louis Arena as the home team Detroit Red Wings was up against the St. Louis Blues. An attendance of 20,000 was witnessed
as the match kicked off.
The 1st period of the match saw the teams’ battle hard to score in the early stages. Both the teams displayed excellent skills with the puck as the match was evenly poised. The home team with the confidence that they carried broke the deadlock
with a goal in the 9th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Drew Miller through a spectacular flick shot that left the goal keeper with no chance of stopping it.
The St. Louis Blues responded to this with a goal in the 10th minute of the period to level the scores. The goal was scored by Brad Boyes from a backhand shot that went flying into the net.
Both the teams got several scoring opportunities but they couldn’t capitalize and the period ended with the scores level at 1-1. During the period, the Detroit Red Wings made 8 goal attempts while the St. Louis Blues made 11 goal attempts.
Both the teams continued with the strategy in the 2nd period, which resulted in the St. Louis Blues taking the lead with a goal in the 9th minute. The goal was scored by Brad Winchester but a 14th minute goal by Detroit Red
Wings Justin Abdelkader from a spectacular backhand levelled the scores once again.
With the confidence and determination, the Red Wings scored once again in the 17th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Danny Cleary from a powerful strike.
The lead was cancelled out by an Andy McDonald as he scored for the St. Louis Blues in the 18th minute with a brilliant backhand shot. The period ended with the scores level at 3-3 as both the teams made 11 goal attempts during the course of the
2nd period.
The first 10 minutes of the final period were dominated by the St. Louis Blues as they made 12 goal attempts but couldn’t score any goal.
However, the next 10 minutes of the period were very fruitful for the Detroit Red Wings. They took the lead in the 13th minute when Danny Cleary bagged his 2nd goal of the night with a goal. The Red Wings doubled the lead with another
goal in the 14th minute. The goal was scored by Henrik Zetterberg.
The Detroit Red Wings completed the dominating performance with 2 more goals in the 15th and 16th minute respectively. The first goal was scored by Brad Stuart and the second by Tomas Holstrom from a simple tip in. The period and the
match ended with this being the last goal as the Detroit Red Wings won the match 7-3.
